I think this is a salutary tale for all involved in image archiving - and I am sure that applies to nearly everyone on the list! The longevity of CD based media has always been in the back of my mind, and I rather wish the manufacturers would do more to promote awareness of this issue (and develop solutions to these problems as a matter of course)...I've got CDs which have been sitting in jewel cases for the last 6 or 7 years with no apparent loss of data, however maybe I've just been lucky!
But the idea of having an old machine to test them on is an interesting idea (I have an old 2x SCSI drive I can use still!), so thanks for that tip! I've always found the differences between brands fascinating (and annoying at the same time), but as always I feel you get what you pay for and avoid the cheapie 100 CD spindles where possible. Just my thruppence' worth!
