  I'm getting in a bit late on this thread, but thought I'd throw out an old
observation anyway.  Several years ago I was having problems with reading a
CD(R).  Tried it on a couple of machines, each of which gave me slightly
different results.  Then I took it home and tried my DVD reader, and I was
then able to extract everything on the CD. (of course, mileage may vary for
each problem CD-R)
