As I understand it, USB2 is only supported on Macs running OS X 10.2.3 or later.

In order to use it you will first need to obtain a USB 2.0 PCI card. A number of manufacturers are now offering these - I know that OrangeMicro and MacAlly both offer Mac compatible versions that come with the necessary Mac drivers. I'm sure there must be others too. Not sure, but you may also need a device driver for the particular drive you plan to use.

Unfortunately, Apple do not yet officially support USB 2.0, although there are rumours that OS X 10.2.5 or 10.3.0 will have it on board.

If you plug a USB2.0 device into a USB 1.x connector, as found on all new Macs, it will only run at the slower speed.
