Something tells me you may not be using the profiles in the correct way:
If you want to go with the canned profile you should select Colorsync and
your paper type in the driver (advanced). Photoshop's print space should be
set to "Same As Source"...

Nah, I don't care, I always build custom profiles for printers, thanks
though. If you use a non correct profile you may well have problems with
softproof, and I'd rather not go there.

I guess it depends on what you do. With a good custom profile this printer
is near perfect in Daylight (or a D50 booth to be specific) and therefore
very well suited for proofing (which in my world is SERIOUS colour work).
FYI all prints display metamerism problems (or let's call it lack of colour
stability when exposed to various light sources), to a degree, even Lambda
prints on Fuji Crystal Archive...
