A local dealer has a 3 month old 867MHz dual with 1 giga of ram and 180 giga
of hard disk. He says he can sell it and would be prepared to take in my 2
year old G4 400MHz in part exchange. Its been two days now and he hasn't
given me a final price, so nothing has been decided yet.

Is there anything either good or bad that anybody can tell me about this
model? I heard it was nicknamed the wind tunnel because of the amount of
noise it makes. Would it be that much faster than my 400MHz in Photoshop? I
currently start to cry when dealing on any file over a couple of hundred MB
in OS X.

The main reason I am considering this rather than a new one is because I
understand the latest generation won't boot into OS 9 and even though I
rarely use OS 9, I still think there are times when I'd like to be able to
use the old system.

The shop owner told me he is selling this for a customer who purchased it
along with a couple of Titaniums and then decided to leave it for sale when
he returned to Holland. Apparently he paid about 1200 including VAT in the
U.K. with the extra specs. I have seen that the new 1000Mhz is selling for
1149 including VAT in standard form at the Apple Store, but notably uses
faster Ram and has a 64MB video card rather than 32MB.

How much of a price reduction should I expect considering its not new, even
though its still got 9 months of guarantee? Also would I be right in
assuming that the dual 867 MHz would be faster for Photoshop use than a
single 1000 MHz? Another dealer told me to expect that the 1000MHz will be
taken off the line up in about a week or two at most.

Thanks in advance for any advice or insights.

Cheers
Ashley
