I have an 867MHz G4 and am really pleased with it. Apart from start-up when there is a very brief rush of wind, I hardly notice the machine is on. You should notice a big difference speed-wise over your 400 Mac, especially as you can allocate a big chunk of your 1 gig memory to Photoshop. > The main reason I am considering this rather than a new one is because I > understand the latest generation won't boot into OS 9 and even though I > rarely use OS 9, I still think there are times when I'd like to be able to > use the old system. > Not true. Apple are still selling new Macs which are dual-bootable...but not for much longer. In fact, I've just ordered the 1.25GHz G4 model direct from Apple. I don't use OSX for reasons I'll not bore you with but I'm told that Photoshop is faster in OS9 than X. > > How much of a price reduction should I expect considering its not new, even > though its still got 9 months of guarantee? Go for it Ashley, especially if you can get a good price reduction!
