How can you be sure that the cmyk channel of the driver and the rgb channel
of the driver are going to interpret the information equally.

Try building a cmyk profile for your driver and send a cmyk image out to
print. Send the same image using your 'RGB' printer profile and compare the
results.

I thought it was good practice to consider profiles as 'route through
driver' dependent. If so, then you will get two different looking prints
from the above test.

Otherwise you're info converting cmyk > rgb ( = pointless, from a workflow
point of view, but will help the RGB driver in anticipating the data) and
sending that out to the rgb driver route.
