What's wrong with using the file NAME for the model's name and agency? You

Much faster and more reliable than messing about with invisible "File Info"
fields.

After you upload it to your server, your clients can view it from a browser
anywhere, and even download images to print if they want.

That would work of course. And thank you for all the other replies so far. But sometimes you want to use the file naming via batch rename to be used to indicate the order in which the models arrived and also assign other general information: client, date of casting etc.

I found the reliability of the FireWire connectivity to be a big problem. Canon's Remote Capture is flaky - won't work if Classic is running in the background for example and if a connection with the camera is lost you may have to reboot to reconnect. Plus there are no metadata editing options and you can end up with different naming for the downloaded files and those simultaneously captured on the camera card.

I always have an assistant taking model casting photos and entering data. For the time being the most reliable and fastest workflow is to not use the FireWire, take the photos on the card, periodically transfer these across to the laptop and edit the File Info metadata in Photoshop. I say this was the fastest way to do it because if a connection was lost via the FireWire and we had to reboot for any reason the delay of even a minute would badly disrupt the routine of cataloguing each of the models. We couldn't afford to take that risk. So I am sure there must be a better software solution out there to do what we want that will work reliably and make the most of having a Firewire connection.
