But this weekend I lost my Vuescan serial number & so in desperation as Ed wasn't around I downloaded the new version of Nikon Scan (3.1.4) & updated my firmware.
And I'm very impressed - I'm getting very good results with virtually no effort on my part (14 bits 8 x sampling) & it seems a great deal quicker than Vuescan. I'd recommend trying Nikon Scan again. The ICE does seem much better - much sharper, less degradation.

p.s. I since got my serial number & I tried Vuescan - it still worked with the CoolScan

I've just upgraded from a Nikon Super Coolscan 2000 to a Coolscan 4000. Vuescan, which works fine with the 2000, doesn't "see" the 4000. NikonScan works fine, so it's not a connectivity problem. Have I missed something simple? I'm running in MacOS9.1. Any help much appreciated.
Just been having a long discussion about VS v. Nikon scan with another
colleague. He has had problems with a colour caste in VS and he also reckns
that the dig ICE software is better in nikon scan than the cleaning in VS.
anyone have anything to say about this? My own experience with scanning pics
for a recent show was that with VS set to "light" infrared cleaning, I have
not had one duff scan yet which needed spotting.
