Dear Brenda

I agree that when I saw the proofs at your place they were not good to say the least. My impression is that they were not even printed on the right paper for starters.

Touch wood, the only time I have had a repro problem in 20 years of handling print the printer who had also handled the repro knew there was a problem. Both they and I worked together to find a satisfactory solution. This entailed them preparing a patch target of work that had printed correctly. This was sent along with one of my sheets to a rival but obliging printer in a nearby town who ran a set of film Chromalin proofs. These were so different to the first lot that it was obvious that something serious had gone wrong with the first proofs.

The only suggestion I have is to contact PIRA, the Print Industry Research Association I think it is, and ask if they have any suggestions.

Yours

How do List members tackle disputes about what constitutes 'good repro'?

With such a subjective topic, how are disputes best resolved?

I already know several List members whom I could approach for a professional
opinion upon the quality of the proofs but is there an acknowledged
independant colour management expert / panel whom both sides would accept as
a final arbiter over quality? Is there an 'Expert Witness' (legal term) on
colour issues and can anyone suggest such a person?

Many thanks
