It sounds to me like its a real "we dont care" issue , I wouldn't pay them at all , write and tell them why , let your Lawyer check the letter before it goes and let them sue if they want to spend the time and money! , but as Richard suggested , log all correspondence and phone calls .
I already know several List members whom I could approach for a professional
opinion upon the quality of the proofs but is there an acknowledged
independant colour management expert / panel whom both sides would accept as
a final arbiter over quality? Is there an 'Expert Witness' (legal term) on
colour issues and can anyone suggest such a person?
Try the AOP , there must be a "pro witness" on that subject in Britain , but from our experience , they are very expensive , hedge their bets and are generally very slow (my experience was around software).
