any small digital files have been used as large posters. I think the 
best course of action is to ask the agency for the spec. required.

FWIW BBC Online used the image of John Prescott punching a heckler on a 
48 sheet poster. It was a 4Mb file.

Sorry I wasn't refereing to applying a load of usm to the file at the
end its just that in the fred miranda, actions you get the option of
interpolating with or without sharpening.

With regards to Nicks point, I find that the interpolation by fred
miranda actions gives less or no artifacts from my d100 files. Where as
I find that step interpolation gives me artifacts, when I do it at 5%
stages.

I think it could depend on what camera you use, as a chips pixels can
often be a different shape (eg s2,d1x,d60,d100)

Just a thought anyway, at least by posting youe thoughts on the list,
its always good to get some very detailed answers.
