I gave in and added a simple but very fast Windows XP system to my otherwise all Mac studio. I intend primarily to use it to run Kodak's Camera Manager and Photo Desk to control tethered cameras and batch process raw files. The speed/cost advantages are just too much for even a confirmed Macaholic to ignore. The OS interface changes aren't too hard to deal with, but its clear that Kodak has spent far more time on the design of their Mac software versions than the Windows. The functionality is all there, but the interface sure is awkward. Nothing a little practice can't overcome. Other than a few fairly minor issues, the setup has gone very smoothly.

I know that several on this list work in mixed environments so I'll post a couple of questions here.

The Windows box has no problem logging onto my AppleShare IP server and having full access to its resources. However when I try to connect to a G4 running OS-X (10.2.6) with Windows file sharing turned on, I can only access items within my user folder... not anything on other disks. I'm logging onto the G4 with an Admin user name and password that from a Mac would give me access to the full computer. Since all of my images are stored on large external drives this is a bit of a problem. Is there anyway to get to those from the Windows computer?

If I choose to use external firewire drives on the Windows box and simply sneaker-net them to a Mac in the next room, is there any problem working this way? Do I just format the firewire drives for Windows and carry them back and forth between computers? I'm assuming an OS-X Mac can recognize a Windows formatted firewire drive just fine.

Thanks

Bob Smith
