IDEA was open to all comers. AoP awards are (were?) open only to AoP members.

It's why they've got members.
You don't think that is a teeny weeny bit simplistic a view by any chance?

This kind of fits in with my reasoning for not renewing with AoP some time ago. Beyond the Lens was, and is, brilliant but I could not see a great deal of active education on its contents to the wider world. The London gallery was of little interest so that left the Awards. When I decided they were the wrong vehicle for me to market myself and I was financially stretched to the limit I had to make the decision not to renew. Yes it was simplistic and I genuinely have no axe to grind.

The new guide may change my view of this considerably. Basically I do not want to market myself through the filter of a judges eye but I do want to market myself along side good photography.

Kind regards

Jonathan Keenan
