Having successfully replaced the HD in my iBook, I figured I could try and
use the old 10GB HD as an external drive (and had noted that people buy
empty cases on eBay for exactly that purpose).

Well, I did this and for fifteen pounds bought an empty Smartdisk Firelite
case. The drive fits and the lights come on when it's plugged in to a Mac.
However no disk mounts on the Mac desktop. I'm using OSX and the manual
says that it should work when plugged in.

Does that fact that it was an internal 'system HD' mean that it won't be
picked up as a regular HD, and if so, is there any way to format it?

I tried holding down 'T' when restarting in the hope that the iBook would
start up from the disk, but it didn't.

I suppose I could have been sold a case that just doesn't work, and somebody
else has been sold the HD that does!
