It is a normal HD, and should appear in the menu of the disk utility for
formatting. However...

What interface does the disk unit have?

I have a disk unit with a pc card interface - it works a treat with OS9 but
fails to mount on OSX - perhaps I'll sell it on eBay and forget to mention
that little 'feature' ;-))

If by FW you meant firewire - there should be no problem

T starts the ibook as a disk, so would never boot anyway :-))

Hold down the option key when booting, you will get a choice of any bootable
volumes the machine can boot from

bye for now
