Hi Jay

Well I'm using a rented LaCie photon20vision LCD monitor on a location
shoot at the moment, and it's a very different experience to working with
a CRT.

For a start your Colorvision spyder will not calibrate it. Optical
software just gives an error message saying that it cannot be used to
calibrate this type of monitor. I'm using a Mac G4.

The native resolution is 1600x1200, which gives an amazingly sharp crisp,
detailed and steady image, BUT everything is much smaller than I'm used to
on a CRT at lower resolution, including palettes, dialogue boxes, digital
preview images and so on. I find I'm sitting nearer the monitor to
compensate!

Also, I get the feeling that I'm seeing a rather different view of my
files in the sense that the shadow details seem to be more blocked up. It
reminds me of working with a laptop (not surprising).

I wouls like to get this monitor in my studio and compare it side by side
with my current set up BEFORE I bought one.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Colin Thomas
