You have one of the old Spyders then. The newer Spyders (1-2 years) will
calibrate LCD's

But then without a monitor profile that is to be expected eh?

For what it's worth I've compared an Apple 20" Cinema with a couple of CRT's
(Sony, Mitsubishi and LaCie 19+22") and found that in all respects the
colour are equal to, or better on the LCD.

I can't tell about other LCD's, but I can tell that the technology works...
