In the first studio I worked in there were 3 or 4 5000kw? packs. Each night
the last job was to make sure that each power unit was standing on a piece
of hardboard. 

If you forgot the pack started to sink into the studio floor! which was an
asphalt surface. It was especially needed for the 'swiming pool' as that
needed two people to shift, if it started to sink.

It also helped if you were a yachtsman as the swiming pool seemed to have
more ropes to move the head, than a small sailing ship needed to sail!

I also recall the bang of a head blowing if you forgot to discharge the
pack, and then remove the flash tube, before you tried to change the
reflector.
