Well........just a short while ago we got John Kent to look at an oldish
Swimming Pool that was producing slightly uneven flashes if used in quick
succession. On inspecting the unit , John asked me how long I'd owned it
for. I had to 'fess up that I'd bought it secondhand from a fashion
smudger together with the accompanying valve driven 5000 console back in
the early eighties and it was old then ( but a bargain! ).

John explained that it might just be needing a spare tube as the dodgy
one in question was about thirty seven years old.

Okay , it's had a fair hammering ,especially of late what with the
multiple capture for digital , and in the past thirty seven years what
with the multiple flash for 10x8 and all those model shots. And it's been
across the Atlantic four times when I've moved to and from the States.
But apart from that I've hardly ever used it in anger on Sundays (well
maybe sparingly) . And I've kept it company with some youthful later
SWPs, SSFFs and SFFs together with some fancy consoles with more switches
, noisy bits , glowing neons and the odd transistor or two.

A new tube !! What's the world coming to ?

Regards,

Bob Marchant.
