I don�t know if it�s the very same model, but recently I borrowed a Sigma 14mm from a friend that showed a very severe flare - and a very noticeable hotspot under wide apertures. I think this has been fixed on the most recent model (the one I used was about 5 years old). A good place to research is on DPReview�s forums, there is a lot of people there using new equipment.
