Hi Kim

There's been a lot of discussion of this issue on http://www.robgalbraith.com
(forums > Canon EOS1D/1DS), but the general feeling is that most of the wide
angles don't match the best telephotos. The lens testing website
http://www.photodo.com/ measures distortion (sometimes) as part of its tests, and the
Canon
website http://www.usa.canon.com/eflenses/ publishes MTF charts for all its
lenses, although of course they tell you nothing about distortion.

For what it's worth my old copy of Canon Lens Work 2 book (I think there's
now a version 3) says that the distortion in the EF28mm f2.8 is "virtually
nonexistant, making the lens ideal for architectural photography", and that the
EF14mm f2.8 has "minimal distortion." This was before the 24mm f1.4 was launched,
which is also supposed to be quite good. The TS-E 24mm tilt and shift lens is
good for distortion, but it is not as sharp as some others.

Best wishes, Paul Herrmann
