I've just profiled my 7600 with Ultrachromes & Hahnemuhle Photo-Rag but I'm
really disappointed in the density of the blacks. The tones are all smooth
with even gradations but do not hit a nice black like the Lyson inks on
Standard Fine-Art. Is this normal?
are you using PhotoBlack or Matte Black? I've not used that paper but would imagine that it requires Matte Black for best results. What you describe sounds like Photo Black on matte fine art paper stock. All I use is Photo Black because that's what most of my work requires and its too costly to switch for just a few prints. You waste about $100 worth of ink to make the switch. As a result I sometimes print with Photo Black to papers that really should be using Matte Black. The results are alright but as nice as I've seen with a proper setup.
