Do you get good blacks using any pearl/semi gloss papers then?
The paper I print to most commonly is Epson Premium Luster. It gives a good rich neutral black with the Photo Black ink but it also gives noticeable gloss differential in shadow tones. It depends on personal tastes, subject matter and display method whether or not this is an issue for you or not. Epson Premium SemmiMatte supposedly has similar characteristics with less of this problem but I've not had occasion to try it yet.
