Hi Glyn,

We run a 9600 (through a rip) with Ultrachrome (matt black set) inks.
Printing on Photo Rag. I would agree that density of blacks is sometimes
not amazing, but I feel that this is correct for this type of paper. I
just don't think you can get a super strong black on such a matt paper
stock.

Thomas Holm profiled all our papers and has got the best black with this
paper. It just soaks up all the ink and light to allow a true black. I
think he also mentioned that any more black ink on the paper would cause
problems.

We have not ventured near lyson inks and don't really plan to. I think
this type of fine art print doesn't suffer from a 'non true' black
anyway.

All our clients have been very happy with colour and BW prints using
this set-up so far. People who have needed a more punchy black have
opted for a different paper stock.

All the best

Graeme Bulcraig

Subject: Re: [PRODIG] EPSON 7600 & Ultrachromes

New thread

Can anyone on the list who uses Ultrachome inks with fine-art papers
please
advise?

I've just profiled my 7600 with Ultrachromes & Hahnemuhle Photo-Rag but
I'm
really disappointed in the density of the blacks. The tones are all
smooth
with even gradations but do not hit a nice black like the Lyson inks on
Standard Fine-Art. Is this normal?

Am I expecting too much from these inks on fine art papers? I like the
longevity issue for my gallery prints and Jo Public may not even notice
but
I certainly do.

I hear that Lyson are introducing a CIS for the 7600, is this maybe the
better option.

I'm using Mac OS9 and no RIP if that helps?

Cheers in advance,

Glyn
