Eddy,
Adobe released the Camera RAW plug-in a while back. It processes camera RAW
files. It's now included with Photoshop CS. You can find a list of the
cameras it supports on the Adobe website.

I downplay my knowledge. Actually, apart from making a mistake in the last
post re CM (and I wouldn't make such a fundamental mistake if I was actually
editing an image because I can see what's happening. And the post was
written very late at night after a long day). I have only made two wrong
assumptions:
I thought when you assigned a profile and then saved out of SfW, your file
was converted to sRGB (since you are saving for the web, it's quite a
"logical" assumption to make). Last week, on one of the Photoshop
newsgroups, someone else made the same assumption and I was able to correct
him because I was corrected here by Neil Barstow.
The other assumption I made was to think that when you elect NOT to color
manage in Photoshop, it didn't color manage and that it behaved as a
previous version. I doubt if anyone will admit it but I suspect a lot of the
members would/have made the same assumption. The fact is, when you turn off
color management, Photoshop just displays the image in your default RGB
color working space. I did a good trawl of the User Guide after I got burned
and found, if I remember correctly, just a line or two devoted to such
important information!
FWIW, when I sat the Adobe Certified Expert exam for Photoshop 7, I got a
100% mark in Color Management. So, I must know a thing or two...<g>
Actually, color management isn't that difficult to master at the basic
level, provided you have a mind for remembering abstractions or don't mind
displaying your ignorance. Especially now that there are courses available
and also books written about the subject. Plus, there are
consultants/specialists who can walk you through it if your time is valuable
and you are willing to pay.

You have the best of both worlds if you keep your copy of Photoshop 5/6/7.
You can run it in Classic mode (OK, so most people prefer not to work in
that mode...) and use all the OS 9 compatible plug-ins that you may have and
run Photoshop CS in Panther for all the new tools and file management
features.
