More of a friendly debate :-)

I'd go along with that .

Should I be working on the other half ?

Way to go.

You can still tweak with ICC an workflow , and Dans experience here is
priceless.

We've been working with a fine art pre press/press house on generating
CMYK separation profiles. One of the most intriguing issues here is that
of black generation.

We're also working with the PPA on their Pic for Press initiative that
will ultimately lead to a set of Profiles being provided for all images (
both editorial and advertising ) that appear in their publications (
Conde Nast , IPC, National Magazines etc )

I'll write a lot more about this soon , but one of the more important
matters here is that of the provision of a number of profiles for one
press description , enabling separations that suit particular kinds of
images.

The important thing here is to take on board the fact that ICC profiling
doesn't provide an automated solution to RGB CMYK conversions .

However it does provide a sound framework to make conversions in an
accurate and predictable way . We used just such a workflow on the last
two IDEA catalogues , carrying out the RGB to CMYK separations on our
calibrated and profiled systems here in the studio. As a result we had a
set of proofs that matched our expectations , and a press run that
matched the proofs.

Bob Marchant.
