Ian ,
Ive expressed my satisfaction with the Dimage 7 series camera before and it has proven
to
be an excellent piece of equipment.
There are a couple of drawbacks however.
Barrel distortion at 28mm setting is noticeable.
Lens flare when shooting backlit subjects is excessive.
Overall image quality is excellent but do not expect lightphase type images, they are
streets ahead.
even the slightest trace of camera shake will degrade image sharpness
considerably, presumably why the new A1 has a CCD stabilisation system
Great raw processing software, better than any other Ive tried, gives 16 bit images and
is
very tuneable for colour balance sharpening etc.
Suggest you wait a month or two and consider the Sony DSC 828 when it hits the streets
as
it also has a 28 to 200 zoom but its a T* coated Zeiss lens and the CCD is an 8mp unit
rendering a 24mp file as opposed to the Minolta,s 14mb.
Its also the same price as the Minolta along with being the first Sony camera to take
flash cards as well as Sony memory sticks.
