Is there some easy way to combine/marge the masks?
I just encountered this issue on an image I was working on yesterday. Here's how I did it:
Make a new layer set and place all of the layers with the affected masks into it making sure they are in the same order.
Add a layer mask to the layer set. Leave it blank for now.
One at a time load each of the current masks as a selection. (command click on the mask icon in the layers pallet}. Then make the new mask you made for the layer set active and fill the selection with black. You can now delete the original mask.
Do the same thing with all of the other masks and you'll end up with one mask for the entire layer set that has the same result as the multiple masks had on multiple layers.
