Ive not upgraded to CS but wonder if those experiencing slowing down problems
( The self funding beta testers ! ) are using dedicated scratch discs of sufficient size
/ speed ?
I recall Richard Kenward experiencing similar problems in PS7 and the cure was a pair of
fast Scusi disks paired up in a raid array as a dedicated scratch disk.

Dear Michael

Just a small correction in case I find I am the centre of interest for all the wrong reasons!

I used to suffer a most annoying effect often whilst there was ample ram to digest the Photoshop file/s being worked on. The 2K system would virtually stop for perhaps 25 seconds with almost zero CPU activity or any other activity for that matter, before trudging on with CPU usage running from 5% up to perhaps 40%. I am guessing because this was some time ago!

At the time this particular computer had individual SCSI drives for paging, apps, OS, Scratch on a plenty fast enough Adaptec U2W controller, but they were not the newest.

Having considered options, I figured that it would be worth 'investing' in three of the fastest Seagate SCSI drives available and bought three. These were allocated as follows. One to paging file, one to scratch disk and one to files being worked on. There was an instant and very significant improvement in performance. The lags totally vanished and both CPU's were now operating at nearly their maximum. I can thoroughly recommend not being stingy with the quality and speed of your drives....just make sure you have adequate cooling because excessive heat kills drives and other things too<G>

Cheers

Richard
