K stands for "Kompensation" (compensation) because the K channel corrects
the insufficencies off C M Y that tries to make RGB.

So why did the Germans not use "G" for Yellow (Gelb)?

Because RGB is " ROT GRUEN BLAU" and the Y would have cause confusion.
CMYK

Some German Blockheads still say RGBS (ROT GRUEN BLAU SCHWARZ)

See the K as a "grey"

Do you know what OK stands for?

Much simpler: A Hamburg Shipper called OTTO KRUSE only allowed his
shipping bags on board after he inspected the content and wrapping.
He signed each bag with his initials OK. The main destination was New York.

The Dockers there used the Initials and shouted OK without checking the
Cargo
further. All unsigned Cargo was not "OK" and was put aside for checkups.

A bit OT but more interesting, I think. OK?
