My situation, so I bought a gun security case from a country sports shop. 
 It's made to hold shot-guns and the like.  I bolted it to the boot of 
the car and put the valuable bits in when to car is going to be left 
unattended.  The car can still be stolen of course, but no-one can make a 
quick smash-and-grab.
