Hi all,

I have just been checking on the best way to save and send small jpg files
for newspaper publication.

I have taken a small jpg file from a 1ds and saved it as a jpg at level 5 in
PSCS to get a reasonably small file , 224kb.

If I save the same original file using the "Save for web function" in PS CS
and use a level of 40 the corresponding file is only 172kb however the image
is much better quality, less blocking etc etc..

Am I missing something? Does the process of saving via the SFWeb chuck away
something that is vital to the image for repro purposes but that you do not
see on screen and therefore it is only suitable "for web"?

The papers are not fussed about colour space it does not matter if the image
is sRGb or untagged so this is not a problem.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Stephen
