I have just been checking on the best way to save and send small jpg files
for newspaper publication.
So that you are able to possibly track the image later, it may be worth your while putting in IPTC data such as keywords, caption, and a URL to yourself, that way maybe someone might search and find your image and even wish to pay you to use it (Duck! There's another pig flying by!)
Am I missing something? Does the process of saving via the SFWeb chuck away
something that is vital to the image for repro purposes but that you do not
see on screen and therefore it is only suitable "for web"?
It basically removes the metadata, so if ultimate reduction is an issue, you could maintain a better quality image for a given size. It is not a loss of image data, but reducing size or increasing compression is, so if repro concerns you, then take all the normal measures to maintain quality, so for that reason I might be concerned over the colour profile and whether or not it was present. The newspaper may well prefer sRGB simply because they are interested in standardisation, and let's face it they are not overly concerned whether you are happy with their colour reproduction.
