Hi,
Have been on a sunny break but after Bob (Mr.Colour) Marchants comments
i had to respond:
for 8 years i worked with the Dicomed scanning back with HMI lighting and
occasionally daylight...the quality was superb but the amount of time per
exposure became a bind especially with hires i.e. 120 mb ....sometimes an
exposure could take 12-14 minutes. As i usually shoot food and drink this
time became a problem. This problem was enhanced by the heat generated by HMI
lights.
When lightphase brought out their single shot back with approx 25mb files I
was sold on this system....I found the quality excellent and uprezzing was
never a problem for those clients who wanted mega files ( by the by they
never knew the original file sizes anyway and i often supplied 80mb files or
higher.) This system allowed for people, action and of course normal
exposures i.e. 1/60 or 1/125 or 1/250 second exposures whilst also
permitting daylight long exposures and of course flash/strobe lighting which
the scanning back precluded.
I now use the H20 phase one back and quite honestly most of the time the
files are larger than most clients require....on the rare occasion big files
are required I uprez and have had no problems...even as high as 450mb.!!
I am tempted to go the Dslr route and probably will do so soon, for the
moment I have a portable solution with an A5 laptop and belt power system
which allows me to shoot anywhere with the H20.
FYI I use the H20 on a Hasselblad mainly with the 120mm makro-planar.
As a final comment since working with the first single shot back the Dicomed
camera back is gathering dust in my safe, if anyone wants to make a
reasonable offer it is there!!..I also have 5x4 Sinar and horseman cameras
and 10x8 sinars gathering dust with many lenses, any offers?
Any detailed questions happily answered.
Regards
Paul Webster
