Subject: G4 Powerbook & Cinema Screen Problems

Dear List Members
It's been about a year since I last posted to the List so I guess I ought to re-introduce myself.
I'm a travel and lifestyle photographer based in Inverness (Scotland UK) and work mainly on location. I'm still shooting transparencies (35mm 6x7, 6x17 & 5x4) but have been reading the Digest on and off for ages, trying to understand what I need to understand, before I ease myself into shooting digitally, I'm part of a print production unit so am often involved with print projects from inception to press. (normally heatset offset web). We use a digital photo library / asset management system as part of our workflow. I now intend to shoot RAW with a D70 alongside film. I'm still reading as much as possible, trying to consider a work-flow, get to grips with Photoshop CS and select the right gear.
I'm also tying to better understand Colour Management and select a CM system in order that I can introduce it across the organisation.

My question;

Is anyone having problems with their 15" G4 Powerbook screens ?
I have noticed on my new unit that at max. brightness setting, there is a slight fall off of light from right to left . At full brightness this is in the region of just less than 1/3 of a stop (measured with a Pentax spot meter) but at anything less than 2/3 brightness it falls to 2/3 of a stop in difference. It doesn't mater how much you optimise the viewing angle.
Also, I have 1 stuck 'hot' red sub pixel (in the centre area) Most annoying. Is this a common problem to other users of the 15" What about the 12" G4 users ? Are there any other Macs or Mac compatible laptops that have better screens and are more suitable for use on location?

And a question for 23" Apple Cinema Screen users - Is the colour of illumination exactly the same across your screen or do you have a subtle but uneven colour patches in the region of 2 - 3cc's of magenta ?

Thank you

Paul Tomkins
