if someone has tested the sharpness compared to the AF-S 28-70mm ED f/2.8?
Has someone out there both these lenses and can mabey give me any idea what
to expect from the VR lens? Also Nikon claim that you gain 3 stops using the
VR technology (i.e. 3 stops on the shutter speed - i my case I should be
able to shoot at 1/125th and f/11) - does this statement hold?

I've been using the 24-120 on a Fuji S2 and D1x and find it useful for tracking shots of cars. My problem is different; trying to get as low a shutter speed as possible and still get a sharp car. I'd say it vastly increases the hit rate at 1/30th and is acceptable at 1/8th if the road is not too bumpy. conclusion around 2 stops I'd say so you won't see much difference unless you value the increased depth of field. I don't have a 28-70 and am not very scientific about testing these sort of things but have found the resolution useable. I suspect the next generation of digicams will really test this lens though.
