Hi Chris

Ok, but what's the largest f-stop at 50mm setting?

At 50mm, f4.8. I find the sweet spot to be around f8-f11 at that focal
length though.

Does the vignetting go away if you stop down one stop? If you have been
getting vignetting on a D1x it must be pretty bad on a full-frame body
like
the DCS Pro SLR/n.

Vignetting is improved when stopped down but corners still clip a bit.
Clear blue skies are particularly obvious. Sorry, should have mentioned,
vignetting was on a F100, not a D1x although on a Kodak DCS, you'll
experience this as well of course. It was recommended by Nikon that I
import NEF through Capture 4 versus CS as their algorithms are designed
to correct optical compromises as far as possible in zooms of that ilk.

I will test it but doubt that I can borrow it for an aerial test ;)

Nice try! Fixation hire it for 18 a day, if you get it on Friday, the
weekend counts as a day. Would give you plenty of time to test it and if
you buy, I think they refund the money against the cost of the purchase.

Hope this helps.
