Have a look at iView Media Pro - you get reasonable slide show functionality (timing, transitions, tiling, audio) and cross platform viewing. Now apparently available for Win though I have only ever used it on a Mac. Keeps file names, iptc, exif and caption data intact. Images can be sorted or ordered by draging into any desired sequence.

Plus a very good asset management app.

Order the images, using something like a contact sheet / light box
Generate a slide show
Print out contact sheets in the same order as the slide show


And still refer to our original file names.
