Hello list
Following the recent postings on corrupted flash cards, is there any general consensus on what to do or not to do to reduce the chances of flash cards becoming corrupted?
While reformatting them via a computer is unadvisable (and unnecessary), I've heard that putting them through a washing machine doesn't seem to do much harm!
To date, I haven't had a problem with IBM microdrives or SanDisk CFI & II cards, but I haven't yet been in a situation where it would have been impossible for me to go back and re-shoot had there been problems downloading.
I have now been asked by a close friend to photograph his wedding. Normally I would refuse point blank. However, I owe him a favour ... so I have agreed. Reading about microdrive/CF failures has now got me worried. Any thoughts on this?

I've been out this glorious bank holiday afternoon to a local concert in a
park where Courtney Pine, jazz saxophonist was playing. Took a few snaps for
myself on the D60 and for the first time in 2 years of trouble free use,
I've come back with a dreaded question mark 'corrupt data' flashing on the
back of the Canon.
All was fine when I reviewed them at the concert.
Tried to download them to laptop on my return home to find they won't
transfer from the microdrive. I've tried loading them into both the Canon
software and Phase One's Capture software v3.1.1 to no avail.
The Microdrives have been in use now for a good year and a half with a total
of about 15000 captures having been committed to them both.
While I'm on, do these things have a life expectancy?
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Just glad it didn't happen on a job, but then again I would have backed up
immediately - was a bit of a busman's holiday today so I thought it could
wait til I got home - so there's a lesson for us all :o)
