I wanted to show the kids the transit of Venus, so I fixed a pair of binoculars on a tripod, pointed them at the sun, and its image formed on white paper about 50cm beyond the eyepiece. We saw the small dot of Venus travel part way across the sun, from the bottom up, before sunset. I thought that the image was upright, but the pics in the newspaper showed Venus moving from the top down. The image that is formed at the eyepiece was too bright on the paper, but at 50cm was clear and sharp, AND inverted. Go figure.
