I agree with you that there are numerous occasions where a jpeg will suffice and I've had no problems using jpegs for hundreds of portraits for actors, local politicians etc etc . I agree there is a slightly cool greenish cast and a simple adjustment layer with a slight correction to the 'neutrals' with a magenta gain will probably sort you out immediately. It did for me anyway!! Having said all that, as some of the others have suggested, it is all academic if you use RAW where you can due to the extreme control afterwards, hence ALL my landscape or commercial work is now shot in RAW. I've never seen a real gain in using the straight TIFF format IN camera.
