Two magazines refused to accept my 55Mb drum professionally scanned 645 film files because; "Photographer's digital files often let us down. We always make our own scans."
Dear Bob
This is indeed a very sad state of affairs and of course some of us only have ourselves to blame for this, but it is just symptomatic of the present culture. Everyone has been sold....all you have to do is buy the box, push the button and out comes the cash, scan, picture or whatever...... It's quick, it's easy and you don't need to have any training....or ability! Yes, as we all know, the same applies to photography too. UGH!
'How do I enhance my 2Mpx files by using sharpening techniques which no one will spot and make it look like an unsharpened capture from a 22Mpx back?'
The road to the bottom is steep and some don't know or care what the difference is.
One of the major problems is that many of us on this list are very sloppy about the terms we use. One remark that crops up regularly is 'I use an xyz scanner and get great results'. No definition of 'great results' means we have no idea whether the respondent is talking about 5x7 photo prints or double page spreads in glossy magazines.
Yes it is tiresome to hear the meaningless superlatives uttered, with there being every chance they have no real basis for their pronouncements other than the results satisfy their present needs whatever those may be. Otherwise surely they would be able to put forward clear comparisons which would be of real value to others here.
We also see questions posted here without any real detail to enable answers to be given. I am not sure how many newbies or beginners there are on this list or how the advice is received.
I think you have just answered the reason for the above Bob and of course you are right. If you want useful answers you have to take the time and trouble to ask the relevant questions. Perhaps what we are seeing sometimes is the tendency to expect to be spoon fed!

Instead of list mums acting like victorian schoolteachers over the dreaded [at] symbol could we have them ask for a bit more precision? Could we ask for a few simple definitions in questions?
Hang on there Bob! As a list mum now retired from that largely thankless task<G>, I take great exception to this totally unjustified remark, as it reflects partially on me and the present hard working list mums! For the information of those who are not aware what the situation is, this is it very briefly.
The list mums are expected by the list owner to amongst other things, ensure that ALL listees post within the published list guidelines..... for the perceived good of the whole list. They do not do it on some obscure whim of theirs, dependent on which side of the bed they got out of in the morning.....honestly!
Best wishes
