Hi

When I was recently in the US I used my Pipex account (plenty of local dial
up points) to check mail. However, at dial-up rates, the best I could really
do was to send reduced size jpegs to people back home. I did answer one
stock request with a sample image (~600k) but in general, dial-up is not a
solution for sending 1Ds raw files...

I did find several motels with wireless access, where I could just send
stuff straight from my Powerbook, but apart from sending pictures of
glorious mountain scenery to friends with office jobs (best on a Monday
morning ;-) I did not use it much.

One problem I found, was that several motels were unaware of the address of
the SMTP server that you needed to use to send mail via their ISP -- I got
to visit several motel offices to get the settings direct from their PCs :-)

A far better data rate can be achieved with CDs/DVDs and Fedex/UPS ;-)

bye for now
