Many thanks Richard, I have been doing something similar up to now by simply shooting an 18% grey card in the first shot. It was the article by Bruce Fraser on Creative Pro zine http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/21351.html (one of your earlier postings) which provoked further interest and exploration.
