This is true. In my (somewhat limited) experience of camera profiles, I have had most success using 16bit TIFF files. The key is to keep the processing totally standard. IE decide on what settings work best for the situation you're in, and keep to them. Quite easily achievable in both C1 and PSCS raw converters. It's the same when printing; the printer driver is, if you like, a RAW processor in reverse. It converts from RGB to the 'RAW' information used on the printer. And as long as you stick with the settings that you chose when creating the profile, it doesn't matter (up to a point) which settings you chose.
