Neil/all, one of my real points was that I have a good idea how much it costs them to make, pack & distribute their inkjet papers, and their dealer prices really aren't that much different to this figure at the moment (as Nova we are one of the largest Ilford dealers in the UK). According to Steve Brierley, monochrome still makes (as of about 6 weeks ago) over 55% of their UK business.
Having done some quick & dirty analysis on nova's sales database, it would appear that our sales of Ilford Monochrome products are up 13% on the same period last year. And even if the digital revolution had caused their darkroom products to wither & die, they coat their own inkjet paper at the plant in mobberley, so business should be booming, right? I'm not someone who has their head in the sand as far as the whole digital/analogue debate goes, and I must say that I did my first true photographic digital print in 1990 on some huge dye-sub owned by the college (showing my age now ;-) - and my first darkroom print the year before that. I am just slightly mystified by the reasons behind the current announcement, although it was not entirely unexpected as their behaviour has been rather erratic over the last 18 months Kind regards Matt Littler Technical Sales Executive Nova Darkroom and Permajet http://www.novadarkroom.com http://www.permajet.com Photokina - Germany 2004 Hall 14.2 Stand KO71 -----Original Message----- From: Neil Cooper Mark [sic] you seem to have interpreted it differently from me what it says - quote: "The Group has sought to reduce its dependance on traditional black and white photography and focus instead on its digital products. It reported sales of $233m (128m) for the year to December 2003, compared with $210m the year before. ............ Although the growth and profitability in its digital inkjet business has continued to accelerate, the decline in black and the white photography market, in which Ilford Imaging has a major share, has continued" =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
