Do you know - if this forum was around say about 40 years ago,I reckon there would be a thread on "do I go colour neg or stay with B/W".
The colour guys would be arguing that all they do is take their films to the lab and it all gets done as if by magic. The B/W guys would argue that this takes the fun out of photography and they have total control over their work. All they have to do is rush back from a wedding to their chemists shop, dev the film , dry in meths, print proofs and rush back to the wedding reception to collect the orders they then would print all week! There would also be some folk with stripey jumpers proclaiming that transparency printed on dye transfer was the only way to go.( with a few more with sellotaped specs further procrastinating that Kodachrome 11 was the ONLY film to use!) Others more enlightened, would counter argue that colour neg is just another way of providing images so use whatever suits you and the job. 40 years later, B/W is stronger than ever, colour neg is hugely popular, transparency is holding its own ( especially with those with picture libraries concerned about long term storage) and digital also adds to the photographers' repertoire of tools! So what's new? ( BTW we have lost dye transfer and horrible R3 but all other tools are available still - plus we have inkjet and thermal printers what a great time to be in photography!) NB. These are my personal views and not necessarily those of my employers!
