Just a few personal observations re the CIS for a 1290...first of all, talk
about a plava to fit the CIS. Had I know in advance, I would've bought the
4000! Manuals turn me grey! <g> I sure missed my camera assistant who was
very good at this sort of thing (and who beat me to a CIS on my
recommendation!).

I followed Nigel's instructions to the letter, which are very clearly
printed for the manual reader and, for the visual imbiber, MPEGs are
included on a CD.

I primed the CIS and let it sit overnight. Priming the CIS was fairly smooth
once I had sussed out how to wet the nipple! ;-)

Fitting the carts was not so smooth. I found the felt securing pads on the
side of the color cart were too big and was afraid they may come off as I
pressed the cart home. I think if it was made of rubber, shaped like a half
dome with the flat bit "securely" stuck to the cart, the cart would slide in
more easily. I was afraid the cart wasn't sitting snugly (still afraid it
will dislodge over time). I did notice some ink spill and think this
probably caused by me taking too long trying to bed the cart without
breaking off the felt pads.

I had done a nozzle check before but, after running off some test prints
found, I needed another one. I also found I had to realign the head. The
prints are smooth again but not as smooth as before - maybe I need to do
another head alignment but the last test showed the smoothest patches to be
the middle ones.

Buying the CIS & inks from Mwords was, as I said, the cheapest deal I could
find (even with discounts thrown in). The difference is enough to buy 250ml
of ink (or in Epson ink prices about...maybe Michael can tell us!).
Furthermore, they throw in a 20 voucher towards a profile built by
Mwords... A good deal all around, IMO.

Once fitted, the printer looks like something Homer Simpson tried to fix in
the dark after having 10 lagers. <g> This is bad news if you are the type
who looks at the mantelpiece a lot...Still, needs must when Epson rides...
