Keeping the File Browser closed when working on images can make an
amazing difference - I still haven't worked out why it makes so much
difference sometimes and not others (it doesn't seem to always be
caused by the previews loading). Recently I had an image open and had
forgotten to option click when opening, so the browser was open behind
the image: Even using the zoom tool was a joke, with the screen
gradually redrawing section by section. Felt like I was back behind a
Quadra. Once I closed the browser PS went straight back to it's usual
speed. I love using the FB, but never leave it open intentionally!
As for the healing tool, are you working on 16 bit images with CS? If
so either convert to 8 bit before using the healing tool, or save,
launch PS7, and work with that. Why Adobe had to mess with this in CS
is beyond me, lets hope they fix it in PS9...

William Davies.
